The short version
- Refunds are generally not available once your course access has been granted, except where South African law requires one.
- Cancel within ECTA's 7-day cooling-off period, before your access starts, and you get a full refund.
- If we fail to deliver what you paid for, the CPA lets you ask us to fix it or refund a reasonable part of the price.
- To raise a request or dispute, email us or message us on Discord with your payment details.
The rule
Refunds
Due to the digital nature of the mentorship and course access, refunds are generally not available once access has been granted, except where required under South African law.
The rest of this page explains what that means in practice, what the law requires, and how to raise a request. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA).
When the service starts
Membership is paid once, by EFT / bank transfer, after you arrange it with us on Discord. When we confirm your payment, we upgrade your account and the course materials unlock. That is the point at which the service starts and the course content is delivered to you.
Cooling-off under ECTA
Section 44 of ECTA gives consumers who buy online a 7-day cooling-off period. If you cancel within 7 days of concluding the agreement (normally the day you pay) and your access has not started yet, you are entitled to a full refund, paid within 30 days of cancelling.
Under section 42(2) of ECTA, the cooling-off right does not apply to services that began with your consent before the 7 days ended. So once your account has been upgraded at your request and the course materials have been made available to you, the cooling-off right no longer applies.
After access has been granted
The course is delivered digitally and can’t be returned once it has been accessed, so after access has been granted we generally do not refund for reasons such as:
- changing your mind, or not having time to use the course;
- your trading results, or the outcome of a prop-firm challenge;
- live sessions not taking place. They are an occasional courtesy, never a promised part of membership;
- losing Discord community access for breaking the community rules; or
- your account being closed for a serious breach of the Terms of Service, such as sharing your login or redistributing course content.
When we will refund
We will refund where South African law requires it. For example:
- Cooling-off: you cancel within the ECTA cooling-off period before your access has started (see above).
- Service not delivered: you paid but we did not give you access, or you lose access to the course materials and we cannot restore it. Under section 54 of the CPA, you can ask us to fix the problem or to refund a reasonable portion of the price.
- Payment mistakes: if you pay twice, or pay more than the price, we refund the extra.
Approved refunds are paid by EFT, normally to the account you paid from.
How to request a refund or raise a dispute
email us or message us on Discord (opens in a new tab) with:
- your name and the email address on your Cipher30 account;
- the date, amount and reference of your payment; and
- what went wrong and what you would like us to do.
We will look into it and reply in writing with our decision and the reasons for it. To deal with disputes fairly, we rely on our payment records and account records, such as when your account was upgraded and your lesson progress. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle that information.
If you are not happy with our answer
You can take the matter to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or the National Consumer Commission, or to a South African court with jurisdiction. This policy is governed by South African law.
